Measurement

How do I make sure measurement start time is accurate?
To accurately adjust the measurement start time, always press and hold the MODE button to reset the computer before measurement. Do the same after finishing measurement.
Why is the display blank?
  • If the battery icon flashes and the display goes blank when the power is turned on, it means the battery has no power remaining. Recharge the computer.
  • If the display does not turn on even when the power button is pressed and held for 2 seconds, it means the battery has no power remaining. Recharge the computer.
Why is measurement not working?
  • Measurement will not start until GPS is acquired and the antenna icon turns on.
  • Even when using the GL50, if the speed sensor is not attached and there is no SPD signal, measurement will not start until GPS is acquired and the antenna icon turns on.
Why does measurement not work when I use an ANT+ sensor?
  • When using an ISC sensor as a speed sensor, if the SPD magnet is lost or moves out of position, the computer registers the SPD signal as 0 and measurement is not possible. (This is because the SPD signal has priority over GPS when measuring speed.)
  • It is possible that your ANT+ sensor is not paired with your computer. Check that your ANT+ sensor has been paired with your computer.
  • The sensor battery may be flat.
  • The magnet may not be in the correct position relative to the speed sensor or speed/cadence (ISC) sensor.
Why does the speed display read "0" during measurement?
If the speed display reads "0" during measurement, it may mean that GPS acquisition has failed. In this case, the antenna icon turns off and speed measurement becomes impossible. If such a state continues for more than 10 minutes, the power turns off. (For GL10, and GL50 when not using a speed sensor.)
Why is the speed display so low?
If the speed display is unexpectedly low, it may be due to your location. GPS acquisition is difficult in arcades, between buildings, and in similar locations.
What does it mean when "MEM FULL" is displayed on the screen?
  • "MEM FULL" means that the maximum recording time or number of trips has exceeded the limit. When the computer is connected to a PC and trip data is uploaded, the data is deleted from the computer and it is possible to record new data.
  • Check that your trip has not exceeded the maximum trip time. (Maximum trip time depends on the recording interval selected: Recording interval of 1 second = maximum trip time of 12 hours, 2 seconds = 24 hours, 5 seconds = 60 hours) If your trip has exceeded the maximum trip time, press and hold the MODE button to reset, and finish your trip.
Why is measurement data abnormal?
If you are not using a speed sensor or speed/cadence (ISC) sensor, the computer uses GPS for measurement. Therefore, depending on reception conditions, measurement may be interrupted or the computer may display values other than actual values.
The display is behaving abnormally. How do I fix it?
  • Restart the computer following the procedure described in "When the operation is unstable" in the instruction manual. If possible, it is recommended to reset and then restart the computer as this will save the data that is being measured as a trip.
  • The display may behave abnormally due to interference when the computer is used near a TV, PC, radio, motor, automobile, level crossing, train line, TV transmitter station, or radar station, or when used with other cordless devices, with certain lights, and in Wi-Fi environments and other situations.
Is it normal for speed display to continue for a few seconds after I've stopped?
Yes. The computer is analyzing loaded data. Data may be displayed for a few seconds after you stop.
What is the longest time I can record a trip for? (Data capacity)
Maximum trip time depends on the recording interval selected: Recording interval of 1 second = maximum trip time of 12 hours, 2 seconds = 24 hours, 5 seconds = 60 hours. (Maximum total recording time for computer: Recording interval of 1 second = maximum total recording time of 35 hours, 2 seconds = 70 hours, 5 seconds = 175 hours) *For long trips, data may be downsampled to ensure smooth Atlas map display.
How long can the computer be used continuously for? (Battery life)
The computer can be used continuously for approximately 10 hours

GPS

The computer does not acquire GPS/The antenna icon does not turn on. What's wrong?
  • It may take several minutes to acquire GPS after the computer is turned on (about 2 to 3 minutes in an open place outdoors). It may also take extra time when the computer has not been used for a long time, or when the computer is far away from the last location in which it was used.
  • As a general rule, GPS cannot be acquired indoors, underground, or in tunnels. GPS acquisition is also difficult between highrise buildings, under elevated roads/railroads, in arcades, near high-voltage power lines and cellular relay stations, and in similar locations.
  • As a characteristic of the computer, acquisition tends to take more time if you start moving before GPS acquisition.
  • GPS acquisition may be difficult during bad weather.
  • Check that the direction of the computer is appropriate. GPS acquisition may not be possible unless the computer is in a horizontal position.

General questions regarding ANT+ sensors

I can't seem to get a signal from my ANT+ sensor. What should I do?
  • Check that you have paired the ANT+ sensor. Your ANT+ sensor must be paired with your computer.
  • Check that the ANT+ sensor battery is not flat.

Hear rate sensors

Why can't I see a heart rate measurement? Why isn't H flashing?
  • The electrode pad may have slipped out of position. Check that the electrode pad is still in close contact with your body.
  • Your skin may be dry. Wet the electrode pad a little.
  • The electrode pad may have deteriorated or become damaged due to prolonged usage. If this is the case, replace the attachment belt with a new one.
Why does heart rate keep switching between 0 and normal measurement?
  • The heart rate sensor may not be attached correctly. Refer to the heart rate sensor instruction manual and attach the heart rate sensor in the correct position.
  • Ensure that the heart rate sensor is attached correctly so that the CATEYE logo is facing up.
Heart rate display is unstable. What should I do?
  • Ensure that the heart rate sensor is attached correctly so that the CATEYE logo is facing up.
  • Try turning the heart rate sensor up the other way. For physiological reasons, some people may find it easier to obtain measurements when the heart rate sensor is upside down.
  • Try moving the electrode from the left to the right so that it sits over your heart. This may improve heart rate display in some cases.
Why does the computer continue to display readings even after I've removed the heart rate sensor?
When using a sensor made by another company, heart rate may continue to be displayed for a long time after the sensor has been removed.

Power sensors

Why can't I see a power measurement? Why isn't P flashing?
The power sensor may not be attached correctly. Refer to the power sensor instruction manual and attach the power sensor correctly.
Power display is not accurate. How can I fix it?
Calibrate the power sensor as described in the instruction manual.

Miscellaneous/supplementary information

I've finished initial setup, but the computer is still showing the wrong time. What should I do?
Time is synced at the point when a GPS signal is received after initial setup has been completed. If the time is still wrong after a GPS signal has been received, check that time zone and daylight saving settings are correct.
The computer is showing the wrong time. What should I do?
Check that time zone and daylight saving settings are correct.
Why doesn't the backlight turn on at the set time?
If the backlight does not turn on at the specified time, check that time zone and daylight saving settings are correct.
How do I adjust the length of time that the backlight stays on for?
To adjust the length of time that the backlight stays on for, you can set the time that nighttime starts and ends for each season from the menu screen.
Why does the computer turn off when I'm using it?
  • The power turns off when the battery runs out. In this case, measurement data collected before the power turns off is protected, so immediately after recharging the computer, reset it and save the data as a trip.
  • It is possible that usage time has been shortened due to the deterioration of the built-in battery. Contact CATEYE customer service.
